The quick brown fox
The Premier League is back and Leicester City kicked-off their season with a comfortable victory over West Brom. The Foxes won by a margin of three goals to none, with goals from Castagne and Vardy. However, it was the latter who stole the headlines.
Last season’s golden boot winner, Jaime Vardy hit the ground running this season with an opening day brace. In the process, Vardy overtook Didier Drogba’s Premier League goalscoring tally. The Leicester star has netted 105 goals in 212 games, while Drogba managed 104 in 254.
TThe journey to the top
Vardy’s journey from non-league football to a Premier League champion is a football fairytale. The Leicester striker was rejected by Sheffield Wednesday at the age of 16. At this point, Vardy’s career as a professional footballer took a massive blow.
However, Vardy got an opportunity to play for Stockbridge Park in English football’s eighth tier. From there on, the Englishman worked his way up to the Premier League. Through thick and thin Vardy made it to the top flight. And to top it all off, he won the Premier League with Leicester.
Jaime Vardy is one of the players who made the 2016 season so memorable. The Leicester miracle is a once in a lifetime event in the sport, and Jaime Vardy played no small role in it.
Jaime Vardy is a Premier League winner and has over 100 goals in the top division. Yet, the Leicester man does not seem to be mentioned amongst any of the great Premier League strikers. Jaime Vardy does not seem to get the attention or appreciation that other strikers in the Premier League have received.
Despite all his achievements in the Premier League Vardy never gets the mention amongst the Legendary Premier League strikers.
So, if Drogba is renowned as a Premier legend, why shouldn’t Vardy be?
